Leading Aerospace Innovation with Expert Precision

Meet the experts driving aerospace innovation at Murray.Industries Ltd.

Howard T. Murray, CD, AM Eng.

Rotorcraft Operations Specialist

Howie Murray is the President and CEO of Murray.Industries Ltd., a Canadian aerospace and simulation technology company at the forefront of rotorcraft training, human performance research, and dual-use defence innovation. With over 30 years of global experience in helicopter operations, systems engineering, and program development, Howie leads the company’s mission to engineer the edge of possibility.

A licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME, ICAO Type II – Transport Canada), Howie holds a Systems Engineering certification from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a specialization in aerospace systems. His combined field and academic background informs a pragmatic yet visionary approach to high-reliability simulation and mission-critical product development.

Howie is the founding architect of VORTEX—Canada’s next-generation rotorcraft simulation platform—and ASCENT Labs (Applied Simulation for Cognitive and Environmental Neurophysiology & Training), a research environment designed to explore cognitive load, biometric sensing, and stress resilience in high-performance operators. He also oversees the development of technologies such as PRISM, PULSE, and SENTRY, which enable real-time physiological monitoring in simulation and live environments.

Known for his hands-on leadership, Howie has delivered aviation programs across Canada, the Middle East, Africa, and Southeast Asia, and continues to speak internationally on simulation-based training, aerial firefighting, and aerospace workforce development.

Dr. Andre Arnold

Integrative Design – Wearables, AI, & Robotics

Dr. André Arnold is a cognitive neuroscience specialist and strategic leader in simulation-based human performance research. As Director of Strategic Research and Transatlantic Partnerships at Murray.Industries, Dr. Arnold guides the scientific direction of flagship programs including ASCENT Labs (Applied Simulation for Cognitive and Environmental Neurophysiology & Training) and the VORTEX simulator platform.

Holding a Ph.D. from Concordia University with a focus on individualized neuroscience programs and a postdoctoral appointment at McGill University centred on uniform-integrated stress monitoring, Dr. Arnold brings a depth of expertise in biometric systems, extended reality (XR), PTSD detection, and real-time cognitive analytics.

His work is foundational to the development of Murray.Industries’ advanced human monitoring tools—PRISM, PULSE, and SENTRY—as well as the data analytics engine AURA, all of which support ethically-grounded human research in high-stakes environments. Dr. Arnold plays a critical role in building ASCENT’s international research network, with partnerships spanning Canada, Germany, and Western Europe.

As a thought leader, he actively publishes, presents, and collaborates across academic and defence communities, ensuring that the company’s technology solutions are not only innovative but evidence-based, globally relevant, and ethically sound.

Shaun Burns

Director of Operations

Shaun Burns is the Director of Operations, Programs and Partnerships at Murray.Industries Ltd., where he plays a mission-critical role in turning innovation into execution. He is responsible for the coordination, rollout, and strategic integration of advanced simulation technologies—including the VORTEX rotorcraft simulator platform and ASCENT Labs, a modular research environment for human performance, biometric sensing, and extended reality (XR) training systems.

With deep experience in program delivery, stakeholder engagement, and operational logistics, Shaun ensures that Murray.Industries’ high-value technology initiatives are implemented with precision, clarity, and continuity. He leads the interface between technical teams, partner institutions, and funding bodies, managing everything from pilot deployments and academic partnerships to commercial scale-up strategies.

A certified Change Management Specialist through the Management and Strategy Institute, Shaun brings structured, real-world expertise in helping organizations navigate complexity. His training is tailored toward practical, high-impact transformation: managing resistance, aligning stakeholders, and securing the adoption of new technologies in operational environments. This background makes him ideally suited to oversee Murray.Industries’ rapidly evolving programs, where cross-sector collaboration and agile deployment are key to long-term success.

Shaun holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Calgary and has spent the past decade leading teams, executing strategic rollouts, and building resilient systems of accountability in both corporate and innovation-driven settings. At Murray.Industries, he applies this experience daily to ensure that bold ideas move off the whiteboard and into the real world—where they belong.
